Are we Indians Any More? (Part I) The Self absorbed
Generation
We
have been subjugated to the centuries of external rule both directly or through
internet, television, facebook and Hollywood,
IT firms, call centres management so that we have really forgotten who we are
and, we are neither here nor there.
Material comforts have increased, but there is no well being mentally and
spiritually. We now lament that we are
not born in England or America and being born in India is
something to be ashamed of. The only
thing attractive here in India for them, is Exchange Rate. Some of the indicators are:
·
In many public
places like trains railway stations and airports I see a new breed. They bother only about themselves.
·
They carry many large luggage
·
will open a
chicken biriyani packet in an A/C compartment at night and after finishing
watching a film/working on laptop.
·
Not bothered about the disturbance they cause
lack of sensitivity and awareness/respect for the needs of others is the common
norm. (Does money at young age bring
this insensitivity?)
·
Along with it today’s parents have provided
all material comforts to them (mostly they are rich or both are employed) but
forgotten to develop their kids mentally and spiritually.
·
The kids cannot bear any disappointment (so
many divorces, suicides, mental depression).
·
Their time has
very high value. Others’ time has
zero value.
·
Their money has
high value; others’ money has zero value.
·
Their feeling
are important, not that of others. No
idea about values.
·
No patience,
cannot concentrate.
Westerners have
invented the “empathy” only in the
20th century. Indians lived
that value for centuries. (This does not
mean that there was equality among classes, such an equality was never there,
even now, in any country, only that legally(or for standing in queues) in
developed countries it is meant to be
so).
Any
amount of lying, backstabbing, not honoring promises, ingratitude, hypocrisy,
sycophancy, lack of respect to elders, views, experience is okay for this new
class.
And
I agonize on the trend, that if left unattended, we will cease to be Indians
soon.
